Security issues

Email dev@shroudwallet.com with "Security" in the subject. Please don't post security issues publicly.

Before you contact us

  • Shroud is self-custodial. We never see your balance, we can't move your funds, and we can't recover a lost recovery phrase.
  • We will never ask for your 12-word recovery phrase. Anyone who asks for it is trying to steal your bitcoin.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my wallet?

Go to Settings → Security → View recovery phrase. Write the 12 words on paper, in order, and keep them offline. Don't store them in photos, notes or the cloud.

How do I restore my wallet on a new phone?

On the first screen, tap Restore Existing Wallet and enter your 12 words. You can also add the date you created the wallet (YYYY-MM-DD). It's optional, but it makes scanning faster.

A payment hasn't shown up.

Shroud scans the blockchain for your payments on your phone. New payments appear once scanning catches up. Settings → Network shows the sync status.

If the sender gave you a transaction ID, use the app's Track Payment feature to check it directly.

I lost my phone.

Restore your wallet on a new phone with your recovery phrase. If you lost both the phone and the recovery phrase, no one can recover the funds, including us.

Can I use Tor?

Yes, on iPhone and Android. Install and start the Orbot app, then turn on Settings → Network → Connect Via Tor → Use Tor. Tor-Only Mode blocks connections whenever Tor isn't running.

Can I use my own Electrum server?

Yes. Go to Settings → Network → Change server.

How do I turn off crash reports?

Go to Settings → General → Privacy → Crash Reports. The change applies the next time you open Shroud.
